FAQ: Phase II

The Master’s Plan
Stewardship Consultant’s Contract
F.A.Q.

How are we doing with Phase I?
The three-year, Phase I campaign scheduled to conclude on December 31, 2009 continues to be on solid footing. We are on target to reach our five million dollar goal by year-end. As of April 12, we have received 3.95 million dollars.

Are we going forward with groundbreaking?
Yes. . .but. We have completed the drawings, applied for permitting, recruited the building team and are speaking with the contractor for breaking ground in the fourth quarter of this year. However, we have three congregational meetings to approve each step: the fundraiser contract, bank financing and the builder’s contract.

What is the goal for Phase II?
When we began The Master’s Plan, we said that the goal of Phase I would be five million dollars and Phase II would be eight million dollars over a three year period (2010-2012). However, we need to get a recommendation from Injoy (our fundraising consultant) as well as the final cost of building estimate from the general contractor to finalize the Phase II number.

Who is Injoy?
Injoy is the fundraising group that was instrumental in helping us plan for and achieve our goal for Phase I. They are one of the largest church fundraising groups in the country and specialize in larger churches. Since their founding in 1992 by John Maxwell, Injoy has served 3900 churches and raised over four billion dollars. They are a faith-based organization that is not about raising money but about training leaders and equipping people for stewardship.

What are the basic terms of the Injoy contract?
They are very flexible since we already have a relationship with Injoy through our Phase I campaign. Their fee for the three-year, Phase II campaign is $80,000. We received a $10,000 reduction in fee because we are a repeat client. Upon signing the contract, we pay them 20%. After that, the balance is spread out over 10-12 months. If for any reason we postpone the campaign, we can freeze the payments and consultation services.   When we resume the campaign, services can be reactivated at no additional charge.

What services will Injoy provide?
Injoy will be our consultants throughout the three years. From May to December, they will work with our many teams to estimate our fundraising potential, design brochures, clarify the vision, communicate the information, train volunteers and organize congregational events all with a distinct faith-based message. This will include several on-site visits as well as conference calls and e-mails.

Following the Celebration Sunday in November when we receive pledges, Injoy will strategize with us in reaching those who have not responded, thanking those who have and laying out a plan to keep The Master’s Plan visible and vibrant for the congregation. Throughout the next two years, Injoy will provide support and ideas on congregational events and communications that will provide a strong follow through until the conclusion of the campaign on December 31, 2012.

Who is our consultant?
Tim Avery, Executive Vice President, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to add to the effectiveness of INJOY Stewardship Services and the ministry it provides. With the ISS team since 1998, Tim is responsible for training and developing consultants who, in turn, serve churches throughout the country.

Called out of the marketplace to begin full-time ministry, Tim has served in such various ministry positions as Adult Ministries Pastor at Northwest Community Church in Phoenix, AZ, and Executive Pastor of Overlake Christian in Redmond, WA. While at Overlake, Tim provided leadership for a Pastoral staff of 27 and a church staff of 100+ in addition to spearheading the project development team for the church’s $40 million relocation. With his experience of being the internal point person for a $17 million capital stewardship campaign and his 15 years of pastoral service in the mega-church environment, Tim is a valuable addition to the ISS team.

Who are our directors?
Christ Lutheran is blessed with committed and dynamic leaders who believe in the vision and will share their time and talent. For Phase II, our directors will be Bill Howell, Anna Gilliam, Robert Bugg and Barbara Anderson.
