Young Two Year Olds
Like our Toddlers, it is important that your child’s social and emotional skills are enhanced in the Twos. Learning through play is the richest way to learn. Your child will enjoy role playing in different centers by acting like people/animals/etc. and using dolls, cars, blocks, etc. to create situations with which they are familiar. Working in small groups will help children interact with others by learning to share, take turns, and talk with one another in appropriate ways. We will give your child the tools to help him/her be successful while playing with others.
Our 2’s will enjoy activities such as the following during circle time:
- Discussion of schedule of the day
- Discussion of theme of the week
- Pledge of Allegiance
- Movement activities
- Songs/Finger plays
- Books
- Calendar activities
Calendar activities will be built upon during the year. At the beginning of the year, the children will be listening to the teachers say the day and date while pointing to it on the calendar and discuss the weather. In January, the children will be counting the days on the calendar to get an understanding of the number concept and will start visual recognition of printed words in calendar, weather, etc. Also in January, the 2’s will enjoy discussing the weather and dressing Weather Bear with an appropriate outfit for the day.
The 2’s continue to work on their gross and fine motor skills through play. They will enjoy activities and art projects dealing with the theme of the week. Show and Share will be scheduled at least once a month.
Centers include: art, dramatic play, blocks, manipulative/puzzles, music, books, and sensory table.
