Welcome, Connect, Equip & Send

Big Two's, Little Three's

During this year, we will focus on building your child’s confidence and self esteem by creating experiences for him/her that require independence such as a job of the week, unpacking his/her things in the morning, cleaning up after himself/herself, etc. Big 2’s & Little 3’s will also work on resolving conflicts, cooperating with others, problem solving, and expressing their feelings. Your child will enjoy role playing in different centers by acting like people/animals/etc. and using dolls, cars, blocks, etc. to create situations with which they are familiar. Working in small groups will help children interact with others by learning to share, take turns, and talk with one another in appropriate ways. This will help your child learn social/emotional skills. These skills are what will help your child succeed in life.

Big 2’s and Little 3’s will enjoy activities such as the following during circle time:
  • Discussion of the schedule
  • Discussion of assigned jobs for each child
  • Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance
  • Discussion of the theme of the week
  • Movement activities
  • Songs/Finger plays
  • Books
  • Discussion of the weather and dressing Weather Bear
  • Calendar activities

Calendar activities will be built upon during the year. At the beginning of the year, the children will be listening to the teachers say the day and date while pointing to it on the calendar. In January, the children will be counting the days on the calendar to get an understanding of the number concept and will start visual recognition of printed words in calendar, weather, etc. Once a week starting in August, Big 2’s and Little 3’s will have activities that focus on colors and shapes. Starting in January, colors, shapes, and numbers will be built into the theme of the week and talked about on a daily basis.

Big 2’s and Little 3’s will continue to work on their gross and fine motor skills through play. They will enjoy activities and art projects dealing with the theme of the week. Show and Share will be scheduled at least once a month.

Centers include the following areas: art, dramatic play, blocks, manipulative/puzzles, music, books, and science with sensory table.
