Quillow SundayQUILLOW INSTRUCTIONSDear Families of 2010 High School Graduates,
In a few short months your senior will be graduating! I know the time has flown by and it is now time to plan for the Stepping Stone “Quillow" Celebration for our high school graduates. What is a quillow and why a special service? A quillow is a quilt that folds into a pillow. On Quillow Sunday the graduates are blessed by their parents and sent out with a visible reminder that they are loved.
The date is June 6th.
8:45 Traditional - Blessing
11:15 Contemporary - Quillow Service
Now is the time to start making your Quillow! The Quillow directions are enclosed or you may find them by clicking on the link above. If you need help or assistance with the making of your Quillow, call or email Jan MacLeod at jmacleod@christelca.org or 704-366-1595
Calendar of events:
Sunday, May 2nd
Email two pictures of your graduate:
One baby picture and one current graduation picture, along with information about their plans and contact information (if known) for next year to jmacleod@christelca.org. PLEASE GET THESE TO ME BY May 2nd, otherwise your graduate’s photos will NOT be in the photo presentation! The photos that you send to me will be put into a video display that will be shown at the reception and service on QuillowSunday on June 6th. This will be made available via email to all of our graduates.
Sunday, May 30th
Bring finished Quillow and Bible to Welcome Desk.
We would also like to collect the finished Quillows and bibles so they can be blessed and prayed over by the staff. The bibles will be signed by the pastors and staff members. They will be available at the reception for other signatures. This is an opportunity to leave an encouraging note in the bible. Please put the graduate’s name on the Quillow and bible. Bring these items to the Welcome Desk on May 30th.
Sunday, June 6th
9:00am Set Up
Bring a display all about your graduate to the Fellowship Hall.
Using a science board (tri-fold) or other means of display, share the graduate’s life events. Pictures, stories, mementos, whatever you would like to display. These will be set up in the Fellowship Hall for our reception. Each graduate will have a space for their display board, bible and Quillow.
9:30am Group Photo
We will be taking a group photo of our 2010 graduating class. You will be wearing your graduation cap and gown for this photo as well as for the worship celebration. Please do not be late!
9:40am Blessing in Sanctuary
The graduates will process in to the Sanctuary for a blessing at the end of Traditional worship
9:45-11:00am Reception
This is a time to honor graduates and their families in the Fellowship Hall. It is a special time for the congregation to celebrate this milestone with the graduates and their families. Parents of high school juniors and other volunteers sponsor the reception. There will be breakfast food, coffee and drinks available.
11:00am - Line up
We will be lining up the graduates for their procession into the worship service. The graduates will process in during the welcome song and then sit with their families during the service. Make sure you get there early and save a seat for your graduate.
11:15am - Service of Blessing and Celebration.
You will take the display, bible and Quillow with you following the reception.
If you have questions or need assistance please contact Jan MacLeod at jmacleod@christelca.org (704-366-1595).
We want to make this celebration a special memory for the graduates, their family and friends and our congregation.
Peace, Jan MacLeod Director of Stepping Stones
