A Tradition Like No Other
Pastor Scott - June 1, 2026
No, I’m not talking about The Masters, but rather the tradition here at Christ Lutheran that we have been celebrating for over 25 years. QUILLOWS! This coming Sunday we will honor our high school graduates by calling them up front, wrapping a personalized quilt around their shoulders and saying those words that are so important to say, but rarely are. Parents and children looking into each other’s eyes and saying:
“I honor you.”
“I thank God for you.”
“I will always be there for you.”
“Thank you for all you have done for me, making my life a blessing.”
“I will always be your mom, your dad, your son, your daughter no matter where you go or what you do.”
It truly is cruel and unusual, but those of us who have wrapped that quillow around our child’s shoulders know how important it is to mark this milestone with this ceremony, with these words and surrounded by this community.
Because you are a part of these graduates’ faith community, I encourage you to be here on Sunday to celebrate with them, ask them their plans for the future, and be a part of this tradition like no other.
It’s Quillow Sunday! (Bring a tissue)
Peace,
Pastor Scott
